SINGAPORE - With the Republic's business as usual (BAU) carbon emissions to reach 77.2 million tonnes in 2020 if no intervention policies are put into place, plans are already underway to reduce emissions by 7 per cent to 11 per cent as part of the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint, said the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) today.
The NCCS also noted that Singapore's pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 16 per cent from the 2020 BAU levels - instead of 7 per cent - still stand, if a countries can come to a legally binding global agreement.
The National Climate Change Strategy 2012 publication was launched this morning by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. It outlines Singapore's strategies and initiatives to realise its vision to be a climate resilient global city that is well-positioned for green growth.
At the launch, DPM Teo also encouraged the people, private and public sectors to play their part in reducing carbon emissions, through lifestyle adjustments or changes to business processes.
