TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa, says that the government will grant a US$1-billion or a Rp9.4-trillion loan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Hatta believes the loan will not interfere with Indonesia’s economy.
“As a big country, we must share that. Indonesia is a part of the global community,” said Hatta after closing the ASEAN-Latin Business Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Hatta added that as a developing country Indonesia had been assisted by loans from the IMF in 1998. As a result, the government’s cash flow strengthened. “If we can assist other countries without compromising our foreign exchange, why don’t we?” said the minister.
